Mining and remote sites: eyes on site when help is hours away

On a remote site the risks are big and the supervisors are few. Haul trucks and people share the same roads. Shifts are long. The nearest hospital can be hours away.
Head office usually finds out what happened from a report, days later. Streaming video out is not an option when the link barely handles email.
Where it goes wrong today
- People and heavy vehicles share haul roads, loading areas and workshops.
- PPE and exclusion zones depend on a supervisor being there.
- Head office cannot see the site in real time.
- There is not enough bandwidth to send video anywhere.
What we set up
We run the AI on site, on a rugged edge box. It checks PPE, watches the exclusion zones around machines, and flags people who get too close to moving vehicles. A drone can cover the areas that are hard to reach on foot.
Only the events go out: a snapshot, a short clip, a count. That works over a satellite or 2G link. Every evening, the site and head office get a short safety summary.
What changes
- Near misses between people and machines get flagged when they happen.
- PPE and zones are checked on every shift, not only when someone is watching.
- Head office sees the site without a six-hour drive.
- It runs on the connection you already have.
- Your safety record shows the warning signs, not just the incidents.
How we start
- We walk the site with you and look at the cameras you already have.
- We pick the two or three problems that cost you the most.
- We run a pilot on one line, kitchen, building or route, with the numbers written down before we start.
- If the numbers move, we roll out to the rest.
What we track with you
Before the pilot starts, we write down where these numbers stand today. Then we report against them every month.
- PPE compliance by area and shift
- People and vehicles getting too close
- Exclusion-zone breaches, and response time
- Site visits replaced by remote review
- Bandwidth used, compared with streaming video
